Whatman GMF-150 Glass Microfibre Prefilters
Manufacturer: Cytiva
Whatman has developed a new filter medium by combining two microfiber filters in one. Manufactured from 100% borosilicate glass microfibres, the filter is binder free and unique in its construction: a course layer on top of, and meshed with, a fine layer. This filtration technique allows for higher particle loading capacity, faster flow rate and and life extendance of the filter. Multiple porosities means greater filtration efficiency. The Multigrade GMF-150 represents the new dimension in separation science leading to faster and more cost effective filtration. In application, the Multigrade traps larger particles in the pores or on the surface of the coarse layer while the medium-sized particles are caught in the interface meshing. The smaller particles are netted in the interstices of the fine layer. Tests have proven that the Multigrade GMF-150, used as a prefilter, nearly doubles the volume of sample filtered compared to a single density prefilter. Conventional filters cannot perform up to the same caliber as the Multigrade GMF-150 simply because prefilters of a uniform density do not have the loading capacity of the multiporosity filter.
